About Us

In December 2001, a group of concerned residents and community members formed the Careel Bay, Pittwater Protection Group.

This was in response to news that the successful tenderer for the lease of the Careel Boat Shed were proposing a 96 berth marina beyond the existing leased area as well as a much expanded shore-based facility.

In 2004, the Group became the Careel Bay Pittwater Protection Association Incorporated (CBPPA), a registered Pittwater community group.

Since 2001, CBPPA have worked with other community groups, local council, government agencies, individuals and scientists to protect the bay for future generations.

CBPPA has:

  • coordinated petitions with more that 6000 signatures opposing the size and scale of the proposed marina
  • liaised with media outlets to ensure maximum publicity for this issue
  • held public meetings to inform the community on the progress of the Development Application
  • distributed newsletters to update local residents on the process of the campaign
  • produced bumper stickers to raise awareness of the campaign: Careel Bay It's not for sale
  • Developed a video to inform an audience wider than that of the Pittwater area of the implications of this D.A.
  • made detailed submissions to the Department of Planning
  • written to and held meetings with relevant politicians and stakeholders.
