The campaign so far:

18 June 2009 NSW Court of Appeal Judgement was handed down.
25 March 2009 The appeal was heard in the NSW Court of Appeal
26 October 2007

Pittwater Council commenced Class 4 proceedings in the Land and Environment Court seeking declaration that the Minister's opinion was invalid.

Justice Lloyd held that the Minister's opinion related to the original D.A., not the amended D.A. Therefore the Minister's opinion was of no effect and the consent authority was Pittwater Council. Austral Monsoon appealed and the Council and the Minister cross-appealed.

June 2007 Pittwater Council calls a public meeting for Thursday 14 June to discuss the continuing Land and Environment Court action and the amended plans lodged by Austral Monsoon.
4 May 2007 Austral Monsoon amended their original D.A.
3 May 2007 Minister declared the development as a State Significant Development
May 2007 Submissions on the amended plans are invited from the public to be sent to the Department of Planning by Monday 18 June 2007.
April 2007

The Land and Environment Court determined that the amended plans for Austral Monsoon's proposal for development of Careel Bay Boatshed be placed on exhibition from 18 May to 18 June 2007.

March 2007 Land and Environment Court grants Council's application to be heard as a party to the appeal and the matter is adjourned to 20 April.

February 2007

Austral Monsoon Industries commence class 1 proceedings in the Land and Environment Court of NSW against Minister Sartor's refusal of their development application.

Austral Monsoon advises that they intend to amend the application and to seek the leave of the Court to rely on the amended plans at the hearing on 23 March 2007.

14 February 2006 The Minister for Planning, the Hon. Frank Sartor,purported to refuse consent for all aspects of the original D.A.
November 2005 Bob Brown, leader of the Greens launches the campaign for the Pittwater by-election of Natalie Stevens, Green Candidate at Careel Bay stressing the environmental importance of the area.
November 2005

Chris Hartcher gives notice in State Parliament of his intention to introduce the Careel Bay Protection Bill 2005 to protect Careel Bay and prohibit redevelopment of the marina inconsistent with the existing character of Careel Bay.

November 2005 CBPPA meet with Chris Hartcher, Shadow Minister for Planning, and Paul Nicolau, Liberal Candidate for the Pittwater by-election.
October 7 2005 The Careel Bay video is shown on ABC TV Stateline.
September 2005 CBPPA meet with the assessor on site at Careel Bay.
August 2005 CBPPA make a video about Careel Bay and the marina development proposal for the ABC TV current affairs program Stateline.
August 2005 Representatives of CBPPA take submissions to DIPNR and meet with the assessor to discuss their objections.
August 2005 Pittwater Council discuss and accept the report prepared by staff opposing the D.A.
August 2005 Pittwater Council resolve to Heritage List Careel Bay wetlands and apply to the Department of Fisheries to declare Careel Bay an aquatic reserve.
July 2005

Representatives from CBPPA, other concerned community members and Council staff meet as a working group to develop a response to the D.A.

Pittwater Council, not being the consent authority, can only make a submission to DIPNR along with residents and community groups.

July 2005 Pittwater Council hold a community workshop at Mona Vale Golf Club.
July 2005 CBPPA request an extension for submissions from the community and Council to Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources (DIPNR). The time is extended by one week.
25 June 2005 The Austral Monsoon Development Application is advertised and together with the accompanying Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is put on exhibition from 27 June to 29 July.
10 June 2005 Austral Monsoon lodged a Development Application (the original D.A.) with the Minister.
November 2004 CBPPA distribute petitions opposing the marina proposal to people at Avalon Market Day. Approximately 1000 signatures are obtained on the day.
September 2004 CBPPA met with Pittwater Council staff and Councillors. Council advise that until the DA is submitted, Council is unable to discuss details of the proposal.
August 2004 Austral Monsoon hold a public consultation meeting at Avalon RSL to present their proposal including a proposed 37 berth marina beyond the existing leased site.
October 2003 Austral Monsoon sign a lease with the Department of Lands for the area of the existing footprint.
September 2002 Austral Monsoon take over occupation and management of Careel Bay Boatshed.
September 2002 Second CBPPA newsletter is distributed to local residents.
May 2002 Representatives from CBPPA meet with Pittwater Council, Austral Monsoon, Department of Land and Water Conservation to discuss the proposal but exclude a discussion of the floating marina proposal because of "commercial- in-confidence" issues.
February 2002 A public meeting is held at Avalon RSL.
February 2002 The first CBPPA newsletter is distributed to local residents.
January 2002

CBPPA organise the first public meeting at Avalon Surf Club to discuss the proposal. The meeting is attended by about 120 people including the State and Federal local members, John Brogden and Bronwyn Bishop.

Austral Monsoon state that they are unable to discuss many details of the proposal because of "commercial confidentiality".

December 2001 Careel Bay Pittwater Protection Group (CBPPA) is formed by residents and community members, concerned that there had been no public consultation regarding the tender process.
December 2001 DLWC advises Austral Monsoon that it is the preferred tenderer. The tender includes the proposed development of a 96 berth marina outside the leased area.
October 2001 Austral Monsoon Industries respond to a public tender advertisement by Department of Land and Water Conservation (DLWC) for a lease of the existing Careel Bay Boatshed
